Jane McGuffie has 20 years’ experience working as a Landscape Architect in New Zealand and internationally. As a graduate of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture from Lincoln University, Jane established her own business in the late nineties, The Garden Room in the Waikato, working on a range of large rural gardens to smaller spaces and residential retreats, before travelling overseas.

Overseas experience was gained from two years working in the tropical environment of Brisbane, Australia and six years in the UK as a Landscape Architect Associate with Lovejoy London. During this time Jane was able to broaden her design and technical skills while working on new resort developments, private luxury hotels, business parks, urban regeneration projects and residential garden spaces in London and the Mediterranean.

Jane is the director and principal landscape architect of By Design Ltd. Jane has always had a love of plants, design and art. She enjoys listening to a client’s requirements, observing, questioning, and analysing the natural conditions and man-made criteria to reveal a site’s potential and find the unexpected. She brings it all together into a scheme rich in material, texture, form, and thoughtful design solutions.
