Our bi-cultural committee (Rod Barnett, Desna Whaanga-Schollum, Alan Titchener, Ian Henderson, Penny Cliffin, Antoinette van der Weerden and Jill Rice) are proud to bring us a second opportunity under the 'Te tiriti workshop programme' for our members in their practice to be more culturally aware, particularly in relation to Treaty issues and tangata whenua.

We will be meeting at Unitec Marae - Te Noho Kotahitanga and the programme will include waiata practise, pōwhiri, discussions on the history, construction and pou (carving) references of the whare whakairo 'Ngākau Māhaki' and the significance of the whenua - the puna (spring/stream) and pā harakeke (flax planting).

Alan Titchener - our kaihautu advisor - will be with us again to guide us on matters of tikanga, ways to proceed to improve our knowledge and practices, etc. Alan will speak on our behalf during the pōwhiri.
