About the Event

The Ōrākei Ethnobotanic Garden utilizes and the design references Māori gardening techniques (including Maramataka, the Māori lunar calendar) and the plan includes a community productive garden (Mara kai), a Māori wellness garden incorporating traditional healing and weaving plants (Rongoā) and a pre-Colonial kumara garden. Nearly complete so far is the community garden, ending its first summer of operation.  The research and design for the garden is the topic of Rob’s successfully completed Masters in Landscape Architecture at Unitec in 2020 and he will talk us through the plans of built and yet to be built areas.  Please join us for a very informative guided tour. FREE for GDS members (and accompanying guests), $10 koha for non-members
