About the Event

Our very own long standing Accredited members Penny Cliffin & Ian Henderson are HIKOI Garden Tours. HIKOI Garden Tours have successfully led garden design tours around the globe and are planning another garden design trip to Japan in April 2024.

HIKOI will immerse you in the unique gardens, art and architecture of Japan. The timing of this visit aligns with the Cherry Blossom delights of Spring, so celebrated by the Japanese.

We visit the modern metropolis of Tokyo to appreciate the energetic architecture of Japan. We spend almost a week immersed in the fascinating gardens of Kyoto, Zen temples and Shinto shrines of this ancient cultural capital, and its many world heritage dry raked (karesansui) gardens and naturalistic stroll gardens. Tadao Ando projects feature in the places we visit. The Art Islands of the Seto Inland Sea offer opportunities to explore the islands and at the same time enjoy contemporary international art. We will also take you to the northern island of Hokkaido to visit the Tokachi Millennium Forest and the Moerenuma Park by Isamu Noguchi.

Additional hiking and/or cycling side trips can be arranged.

$NZ7200 3-4 star single accommodation, regional rail pass and garden and gallery entries. Shared room price $NZ6500pp, so bring a friend!

Information meeting to be held at Penny's house, 34 Lloyd Ave, Mt Albert, Auckland on Sunday, 21st January 2024 @ 4pm.
