About the Event

Andy Hamilton is an Auckland based Landscape Architect (a former student of Unitec) who is the director of his own studio; Andy Hamilton Studio. Andy began practicing in 2003 before moving to the UK in 2005.  Prior to his studies Andy gained practical experience building gardens in Auckland working with Second Nature.

Andy lived in London for eleven years working as an associate of Tom Stuart-Smith Ltd, an internationally recognised landscape architecture practice based in London. During his time working with Tom Stuart-Smith, Andy created private and public gardens in the UK, Europe, India, Morocco and the Caribbean, each with contrasting climates and different cultural and traditional connections with gardening.

Andy will speak primarily on themes around planting design and will illustrate his talk with ten gardens from a selection in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and a couple more exotic locations including Africa.

“I guess the one theme that pervades is my desire or subconscious attempt to create something naturalistic almost regardless of the brief, geographical or architectural context.”

Andy is a wonderful speaker and this promises to be a global gallop through some of Andy’s beautiful design work. Prepare to be transported.
